When you are having fun and feeling good, you achieve more together and have more fun with each other. At Kayak, our goal is not only to find inspiring assignments that truly suit you, but to really bring out the best in yourself.

Our founder Ruben Verkuijl shares three of his favorite tips for more energy during your workday and beyond. These tips come from the experts at Live your potential, our personal development program for everyone working with us.

Ready for an energy boost? With these scientifically backed tips, you can get started right away!

1. Stand up every twenty minutes You probably knew that sitting all day is harmful to your health, but did you also know that exercising in the evening does not undo this negative effect? This eye-opener was shared by neuropsychology professor Erik Scherder during his inspiring presentation at our annual Live your potential day.

Prolonged sitting can lead to conditions such as heart disease and type 2 diabetes, even if you also exercise seven hours a week. Erik Scherder's solution? Stand up every twenty minutes, or at least every hour. Stand for at least two minutes, or even better: take a short walk.

2. Count your breath for one minute daily One of my favorite ways to improve your overall well-being is through meditation. It reduces stress, improves your sleep, and enhances your concentration and focus [source 1, 2, 3]. You will feel better and your blood pressure will decrease.

An easy, practical way to start is by counting your breath at a fixed time every day for one minute. Then expand this to twice a day. Or ask your Kayak field manager about the Headspace app and our annual masterclass for an introduction to meditation.

3. Reach for a (audio)book instead of social media Research shows that (excessive) use of social media has a negative effect on your mental health [source]. It can lead to stress, anxiety, and insecurity. A simple tip is to always have a (audio)book with you for those moments when you habitually open your social media. Instead of reaching for your phone, grab your book.

For everyone working with Kayak, we have developed together with a team of coaches the Live your potential menu . With this, you choose how you want to grow, for example with a Storytel subscription, meditation course, or leadership training.
